Guide Fishing Line - Spool Capacity Calculator

I'm going to introduce a brand-new module I developed for the OltaMisina community — something that doesn't exist in any other community in the world — and explain how to use it right here. Our module is the Fishing Reel Line Capacity Calculator, or MSK for short.

What Is Fishing Reel Line Capacity Calculator ( MSK )?

The Fishing Reel Line Capacity Calculator (MSK) is an extremely handy module that, based on your reel's factory reference values, lets you calculate how many metres of braid, fluorocarbon, or monofilament line will fit on your spool, how much fill you'll be putting on the spool, and — if there's no capacity information on the spool or you want to verify it — lets you calculate capacity from physical measurements.

How Do You Use MSK?

When you click the "MSK" menu in the top navigation area, the module screen will appear. On the module screen you'll be presented with three options:
  • Capacity calculation
  • Backing calculation
  • Spool measurement
The spool measurement option is for rare situations where you can't find any information on the reel's spool or its box — it will get you to the right result. In general, the options you'll be using are capacity and backing.

Capacity Calculation

Using the capacity calculation option, you can easily calculate how many metres of braid, fluorocarbon, or monofilament line will fit on your reel's spool for different line diameters, using one of the capacity values listed on the reel's spool or box as a reference. Let's go through the options that will appear when you select the capacity calculation option one by one.

Select One of the Values Printed on the Spool (Reference)

The first thing to look at in this section is the Nylon / Fluorocarbon and PE / Braid options. If you're spooling braid onto your reel, select PE / Braid; if you're spooling mono or fluorocarbon, select Nylon / Fluorocarbon. Then, in the same section, fill in the:
  • Line Diameter Printed on Spool (Reference) - mm
  • Capacity Printed on Spool (Reference) - metres
fields — that is, the mm or metres field (metres is generally used) — with the reference value specified for your reel.

Enter the line diameters you want to try

Enter the values you want to spool onto your reel in the fields here, and when you hit calculate in the final step, the system will tell you exactly how many metres of braid, fluorocarbon, or monofilament line you can spool onto your reel — with 100% accuracy.

Backing Calculation

Here you can calculate how many metres of backing (filler) you need to spool under your main line. It's ideal for making full use of the spool's capacity. The backing and main line can be different types (e.g. PE backing, fluorocarbon main line) — make sure you select the correct type from the options in the module. When you select the backing option, the screen that comes up will again ask you to enter your reference value first, just like above — I won't repeat that since I already explained it.

Main Line Details

Here you need to enter the details of the main line you'll be using on your reel, in the same way as described above.

Backing Details

In this section, simply enter the diameter in mm of the line you'll be using as filler on your reel, then hit calculate. The app will work out how much backing you need to put on.

I tested the app over the course of a year on a wide range of braids, fluorocarbon lines, and monofilament lines, and it turned out to be a flawless tool with 100% accuracy. I've also added explanations within the app to make it easier to use.

Thanks to this app, the unfortunately widespread fraud that's been going on in our country has now been clearly and definitively put to an end. I don't think I need to go into detail about what kind of fraud I'm referring to.
